Freelance life is seductive. You choose your hours, avoid the commute, and never have to deal with micromanaging bosses. But the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Freelancing can be scary, lonely, and sometimes downright depressing.

If you’re like most of us, you don’t have a ton of extra cash lying around to cover the expenses that freelancing brings with it. When you’re a freelancer, you have no benefits. No paid vacations, no paid sick days, no paid anything.

If you get sick and can’t work, you don’t get paid. If you’re not productive, you don’t get paid.
When your paychecks come in, they may not be good enough to cover all your expenses. Let’s look at the disadvantages of being a freelancer.

    Disadvantages Of Being A Freelancer

A man can not live on bread alone. The first thing that you should do if you are going to be a freelancer is to pay yourself. This may seem like an easy decision, but this is one of the most overlooked things we could do as a freelancer.

Like advantages of freelance, it as well as has its pros and cons. If we do not set our expectations beforehand, chances are it will frustrate us or become a part of the statistic that says that around two-thirds of freelancers fail within their first two years.

    Let’s get explore freelancing disadvantages.

    Disadvantages Of Being A Freelancer

    1. Lack of regular income

If you’re a freelancer, there’s no guarantee that you’ll make money. As a result, it’s always important to have backup plans in case your income slows down. As a freelancer, you have to be aware of your expenses and what may come up in the future.

    2. Lack of benefits

Freelancers do not receive the same benefits that employees do at a company. It’s important to look at all the perks because they can make a big difference.

For example, employees get paid time off and health insurance. In addition, freelance writers get an employer to buy the health insurance policy and pay them.

    3. No guaranteed tasks

Tasks are not always guaranteed, so it’s important to have a work-life balance and plan accordingly. You may have to work long hours at home because no one is available at a certain time, which can be frustrating.

    4. Knee-deep in paperwork

Freelancers have to deal with lots of paperwork and contracts because it’s difficult to find work in writing, and the amount of paperwork is on the average double for an employee. This can be stressful because you are receiving and sending documents to people.

    5. Longer average working hours

As a freelancer, you will probably have to work longer hours at home. For example, if you are writing, you probably have to stay up and work long into the night.

This can be difficult to maintain a healthy schedule, and it’s hard to manage when you have other things going on in your life.

    6. Health Issues

Health issues can destroy your finances and let you to get behind on work. It’s important to stay healthy so you don’t lose work time. For example, if you have a cold or the flu, you might be too sick to work.

    7. Long commutes

In the journey of freelancing, a long commute could either be a job requirement or a choice. We can relate a long commute policy to the rewards you will get or any kind of benefit that you can get in exchange for your effort.

The con is that as a freelancer, you will never fully be at home, as you need to make sure that the place you are providing your service is located properly.

    8. Freelancing is arbitrary

Scheduling a freelance job means that you’re competing with other freelancers for the same work. If you got hired on, it was because someone else didn’t get hired.

If you’re good at your job, you can find plenty of work to do. But if you’re bad at it, then you can’t get hired back, and you have to find something else to do.

    9. Freelancing is chaotic

If you don’t have a regular office, it’s easy to get behind on everything. You might not have time to organize all your work as systematically as you do at your job.

You never know when someone will try to schedule you. You might have to change your hours because a coworker wants to work from home or the cafe across the street has a better wireless.

    10. Tying up your life

If you’re a freelancer, you might not have the flexibility to take time off and travel. If you have to work on weekends or evenings, you can’t go home and get some rest.

If you have a big project, you might not go on vacation while you handle it. When you work for yourself, everything is always up in the air. You might have to change where you live because your apartment is too expensive.

    11. Risks

What if you can’t get work, or your work isn’t good enough? What if you don’t have a regular job? What if your office space gets broken into and all of your work is stolen?

When you freelance, there are risks. You might get sick and not have any money to pay the doctor. You might get robbed and lose everything you own.

    12. No growth

When you work for yourself, you don’t need to worry about improving your job skills or getting more responsibilities at work. You can’t move up the corporate ladder.

When you work for someone else, you might get to do different jobs. If one job gets boring, you can switch to something new. You might get a promotion or a raise.

    13. Stagnation

Last but not least drawback of being a freelancer is stagnation. When you work for yourself, you don’t have to do any self-reflection. You don’t have to wonder if you’re good at what you do, or if there are other options out there. You don’t have to find something else to do when you don’t like your job.

    disadvantages of online tutoring

Online tutoring means you have to work from home, watch over a webcam, and speak with your students. You can’t be away from your phone for long. Online tutoring is also commonly referred to as “virtual tutoring”.

If you get done with your assignment and get to go home, most people would consider that great. However, if you’re working from home, then you’ll have to stop your work and send out emails.

You will communicate with students by phone and by email. Below is a list of some disadvantages of online tutoring.
