We can define a calculator as an electronic device that performs mathematical calculations.
Since calculators can be used for two types of mathematical calculations (arithmetic and algebra), they are categorized into two main types:
- Arithmetic calculators specialize in performing arithmetic computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They are also called desk calculators because they perform their tasks on the desk
- Algebra calculators specialize in performing algebraic computations, such as solving equations. They are also called handheld calculators because they are held in the hand when performing their tasks.
